Think twice, three times, and periodically ensure you have the necessary knowledge and resources to move ahead. Leaders must question assumptions—those of others and their own. They must periodically question the accepted path forward. This requires taking time to consider present and emerging options, recognizing that we do not always have all the answers. Consider questions based on what their gut is telling them.
Maintaining a degree of skepticism is critical. Asking questions to get to the “brutal facts” while realizing that not all “facts’ are, indeed, factual--particularly to the current and future environment. Focus broadly, then more narrowly, analyzing as you go.
When you know where you want to go and achieve, a laser focus is important to avoid being distracted or straying. But in today’s fast-moving and transformative environment, we must keep our eye on the ball while scanning the broader field. Don’t let yourself get locked into one mindset without remembering to periodically think again.
